OIC

Organization of Islamic Cooperation

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) was established in 1967 and is one of the observers of the United Nations General Assembly. Its member states are constituted of countries in the Middle East, Central Asia, West Africa, North Africa, and the Indian subcontinent, covering a population of about 1.6 billion. The Islamic Cooperation Organization is committed to promoting the development and advancement of the Islamic world, as well as protecting the stability of the Islamic world.

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation adopted its first charter in 1972 and has continued to cooperate with member states within the organization since then. In the past meetings and conferences, the Islamic Cooperation Organization has repeatedly resolved regional issues among member states, which has facilitated a harmonious atmosphere among member states and simultaneously unified the Islamic world.

As for the committee composition of the OIC, it mainly includes the Islamic Summit, the Council of Foreign Ministers, the Al-Quds Committee, and the permanent committees that mainly regard three different aspects: science and technology, economy and trade, and information and culture. These committees play an essential role in the organization, which definitely enhance and consolidate the bonds of fraternity and solidarity among the member states, at the same time support the legitimate causes of the countries.

Main Chair / Joe Chiang

Greetings, my name is Joe Chiang, currently a freshman majoring in Arabic language and culture at National ChengChi University. Model United Nations has become a great focus of my life since 2016, and has never failed to astonish me with the abundance of various point of views. I’ve gained extensive experience in security and human-rights-related topics of discussion through different conferences, which undoubtedly enhanced my ability of negotiating, critical thinking and logical reasoning.

This year, the HSMUN Organization of Islamic Cooperation will draw its attention to the human rights persecution under religious matters. Human rights issues are valued internationally, but human rights incidents caused by religion is often the most troublesome. The Dais team hopes that through the Islamic Cooperation Organization, delegates will be able to explore related events from the perspective of Islamic countries. We also expect that not only can the delegates have a thorough understanding of the considerations of various countries behind religious persecution, but also find solutions from different aspects such as security, politics, and religion.

Extremely looking forward to the conference, and we sincerely hope that all delegates can have an unforgettable experience at HS Model United Nations Conference 2020.

Co-Chair / Wyatt Wang

Hi guys, my name is Wyatt and I am currently in my freshman year majoring in Law at National Chengchi University. It’s definitely my highest honor so far to serve as a Co-chair in HSMUN this year.

Organisation of Islamic Cooperation in HSMUN 2020 would focus on the human rights issues under religion persecution. It seems to be common sense that protecting basic human rights is a universal value to all humans. However, if it comes to religion matters, people usually turn blind and irrational. It’s not a problem only in the Islamic community, but from the old ancient times to modern society. Therefore, we expect that delegates can come up with systematic solutions in order to confront any emergent human rights crises.

I’ve participated in Model UN for about three years. During the journey of MUN, what I learned the most is that you cannot save the world by participating in MUN, but with the skills you cultivated in MUN conferences. As one of the many MUNers, I believe that all of us are more aware of global affairs than others. However, it doesn’t make any changes if we only stay in the conference room. The thousand-miles travel starts with one single step, so keep your enthusiasm and take as much action as you can.

Co-Chair / Daniel Yeh

Greetings! I’m Daniel Yeh, currently a freshman majoring in Education at National ChengChi University. I have participated in Model United Nations since senior high school and this really changed me a lot. Not only has MUN enhanced my ability of negotiating and critical thinking, but also broadened my horizons simultaneously. Through every conference, I’ve gained the ability to use a multi-faceted view to address the issue; furthermore, by discussing with other delegates, I learned how to conclude different ideas and aspects to an ultimate solution.

Islamic countries have been suffering from lots of problems, especially human rights under religious persecution. The HSMUN Organization of Islamic Cooperation would draw attention and widely discuss this issue and its derivative problems. The Dais team hope that delegates can produce a comprehensive draft resolution according to the issue and your own country’s stance. During the process, I’m definitely sure that delegates can gain a  deeper understanding of this topic and that many misconceptions of the Islamic world will be clarified.

It is my honour to serve as a co-chair in HSMUN. I am really looking forward to the conference, and I hope all of us can have an unforgettable memory in HSMUN 2020.
